Green & Fresh Cleaners is 100% PERC Free
Why is green dry cleaning better?
- Better For You:
Most dry cleaners use PERC (also know as perchloroethylene or tetrachloroethylene), a chlorinated hydrocarbon classified by the EPA as a Toxic Air Contaminant. PERC can irritate eyes, nose and throat. It can cause headaches, dizziness or fatigue and is classified as a possible to probable human carcinogen by the EPA. We use an eco-friendly and green cleaning solution that is made from sand, the most abundant natural resources. In fact, it was discovered by a scientist working with a solution used in cosmetics. It’s the same base ingredient found in everyday shampoos, soaps and lotions, so it’s safe for you and your family. - Better For The Earth:
PERC, which many dry cleaners use, can contaminate soil and groundwater. The cleaner we use is so safe the EPA does not regulate it; it’s safe for the air, water and soil. What’s more, the solution is not a VOC; it is non-toxic, and non-hazardous. If you wanted to, you could safely rub it on your skin. - Better For Your Clothes:
The eco-friendly, green cleaning solution we use is chemically inert, meaning it does not interact with the textile fabric or dyes during the cleaning process. This helps preserve the quality of garments, eliminates problems with fabric wear or color loss, maintains a soft “hand” and prevents shrinkage. Delicate silks, suede, leather, beads, sequins, painted garments, specialty buttons and trims, couture, heirloom fabrics and other “problem” items are no problem at all. And, unlike petroleum based solvents like PERC or hydrocarbon, liquid silicone is odorless, so there is no lingering chemical smell on your clothes.
Are all green cleaners the same?
No. Some green “dry cleaners” are actually using wet cleaning that uses water as the main solvent in specialized machines, along with specially formulated detergents and additives. These additives are supposed to protect your delicate clothes from the harshness of water. In our opinion, we didn’t like the smell of these additives and we didn’t like the idea of using water on delicates.
We use the best green process for you, your clothes, and the environment. It’s expensive for us, but we wanted to use the best for you. In addition, we have “the Ferrari” of dry cleaning machines – an Italian made Union machine. Green & Fresh Cleaners uses only the best for your clothes.
